Written By Cory Frye – Man, I tell ya: Last Friday I staggered home feeling like a whipped mongrel. My eyes were heavier than six Boris albums, Charlie Brown could’ve pitched a no-hitter atop my posture and my mind was stuffed with enough grim weariness to nurture a planet of Eeyores.
That is, until I found my copy of Casey Hurt’s “Mended Souls.” It’s been my go-to these last couple of weeks as I’ve watched doldrums devour winter’s last scraps and drown the valley in dolorous torrents. Even from Los Angeles, the city he now calls home, the former Corvallis resident’s rustic holler, sweetened with welcoming mesquite, enveloped my living room — I freed him from my ear buds; you gotta let him breathe — and eased me into serenity. read more

There is a certain tone to Casey Lee Hurt’s voice. It is a kind of stoic tranquility that draws you in until you find yourself fixed in a state of rapt attention. In the study of vibrational healing, the human voice is regarded as a powerful tool which can be used to raise the vibrations of the energy body to higher and more positive levels. With that in mind it is not far-fetched to think of someone like Hurt possessing such a power in his voice, especially given the nature and intent of the energy he pours generously into his craft. His music is all heart and soul; passionate, radiant, transcendent, and transparent. With the release of his new album, Mended Souls, he is aiming to grab listeners by the ears and hearts, and give them a little something that will move their bodies and lift their spirits as well.… To read more click here.
To whom it may concern,
I’ll be hiding in the studio for the next few months in hopes of release a great new album during the first week of april. I’m very excited, I hope you are too. Please forgive me silence, I promise I’m hard at work.
Sincerely,
Casey Lee Hurt
Tonight my beautiful wife took me to go see “The Civil Wars” at Hotel Cafe. All I can say is holy $h!t. This band blew my mind in so many ways. I think the thing that stuck me the most was the honesty in they’re lyrics. I have to say that I’m a sucker for a broken heart and they sure could deliver. The song that hit me the hardest was called Poison & Wine. read more

This week as I was in the studio recording my friends Kate and BJ I came upon an interesting thought. It came up when kate said how nice it was to hear a man sing silent night. It instantly made me think about how people interpret songs based on who’s telling the story. You see I’ve always thought of silent night as a song being sung by Mary, the mother of Jesus. I think it’s probably cause I’ve only ever herd that song sung by women but as soon as I herd it sung by another male I thought about what it would be like if Joseph was singing it. read more
In the last 12 years as a songwriter (wow, 12 years!) I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what responsibility I have to the world. Not, necessarily the world like mother earth but the world like the people all around me. The people the I love and the the people that I sometimes overlook. As I’ve said in earlier posts, I believe that it’s important, when possible, to speak or stand up for others who don’t always have a voice of there own. I’ve learned that there will be times for all of us where we can’t stand up for ourselves and we’ll wish that someone was there to stand a long side us. I guess if I’m honest the song “letters from a friend” is the retelling of one of the first times I had to see someone stand alone, and wished I would have done something… read more

Be sure to come out and bring your holiday cheer cause it will be a full night of songs, special guests and stories. I’m looking forward to playing with my good friend Mike McGraw from The Brian Buckley Band and sharing some new material off the upcoming album.
